Monique Alcala Challenges Kendall Scudder to Defend His Record at TDP Chair Forums

Austin, TX - Monique Alcala challenged Interim Texas Democratic Party Chair Kendall Scudder to defend his record at a series of public candidate forums ahead of the upcoming 2026 Texas Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi.

Alcala’s challenge that Scudder defend his record to the Convention voters comes on the heels of a public demand by dozens of Texas Democratic leaders and former party staff requesting he drop his bid for a full term to lead the Texas Democratic Party.

Scudder recently oversaw Democratic Primary Election mismanagement in Dallas and Williamson Counties. Scudder has also been the subject of an ethics complaint alleging financial improprieties at the Texas Democratic Party during his four-year combined tenure as Vice Chair for Finance and Interim Chair.

In recent days, the Texas Democratic Party announced that candidates for Party officer positions – including Scudder’s opponents in the race for Chair of the Party – will be denied the opportunity to speak to the TDP Convention’s delegates before they vote for a new Chair. This series of forums would restore the delegates' right to hear from each candidate before casting their vote.

“Real leaders aren’t afraid to show up and be accountable,” said Alcala.“The candidates, elected officials, county parties, clubs, volunteers, and more than 6,000 delegates to the TDP Convention deserve to hear directly from all the candidates for chair. That’s why I’m ready to show up anywhere, any time to fight to lead our party in 2026,” Alcala concluded.

Alcala’s campaign announced a series of in-person campaign stops across the state and challenged Scudder to attend any of these events and to defend his record.
