Texas Democratic Party Chair Candidate Monique Alcala Challenges TDP Interim Chair Kendall Scudder to Stand Up to Anti-Semitism
Austin, TX - Texas Democratic Party Chair Candidate Monique Alcala issued the following statement today in response to the unhinged, antisemitic comments by Republican-backed Maureen Galindo who is running for the Democratic nomination in TX-35:
“Let me be clear: Maureen Galindo’s unhinged and disgusting comments about American Jews – claiming our Jewish friends and neighbors are pedophiles who should be put in extermination camps – are vile and deserve universal condemnation, from Democrats and Republicans alike.
And with recent reporting out that a secret Republican super PAC has spent a half a million dollars trying to make Maureen Galindo our Democratic nominee for Congress, it is time for The Texas Democratic Party to end its silence in this race. The TDP and interim Chair Scudder must loudly and unequivocally disavow Maureen Galindo – right now.”
Alcala’s comments come on the heels of recent revelations that Texas Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign partner Texas Majority PAC has funneled $150,000 in campaign contributions to a political action committee in support of one Democratic candidate’s primary run-off election campaign for Lieutenant Governor; a violation of the state party’s traditional role as neutral managers of the primary election.
“We traditionally count on the Texas Democratic Party to administer a neutral Democratic primary,” Alcala continued. “So let me ask you this: why is the Texas Democratic Party permitting its partner Texas Majority PAC to pick sides in one primary runoff, while the TDP sits by silently in another? In one campaign, Texas Democrats have two outstanding candidates in the race for Lieutenant Governor – either of them would be better for our families and our state than Dan Patrick; and yet the TDP’s primary political ally is picking sides in the primary. But in TX-35, an antisemitic Republican-plant could cost Democrats the ability to win a US House majority, and Kendall Scudder and the TDP sit by silently? It’s unacceptable.”
Monique Alcala knows how to win. She is a 15-year veteran of competitive campaigns across the country. As the former Executive Director of the TDP, she worked to reform and modernize the state party. She is running for TDP Chair to restore trust, build a culture of winning, and support the candidates, elected officials, county parties, clubs and volunteers who are the beating heart of Texas Democrats.
